Today, there are so many new systems and processes in place, thanks to the advances in Technology, including Automation processes. All of these are aimed at enabling businesses to grow and stay connected with their customers. But how many of these are actually having a positive impact?

Before diving deeper into this, let us understand what BPM Business process management refers to.

Every business has an operational system and process in place that ensures the product or service generated is done right, protocols are followed and so on. BPM essentially involves strategies, process orchestration, optimisation, and it includes innovation as well. BPM basically manages the structured business processes and integrates human & automated aspects into the sequence of steps. So, if you look at the bigger picture, it is all about integrating teamwork streamline processes & collaborations and involves quite a percentage of automated production workflows.

Business Process Management [BPM], Automation & more…

In recent times, the demand for Business Process Management has seen a huge surge in demand and it should be mentioned that the Robotic Process Automation [ RPA] space is also seeing quite a bit of traction.

For example, if you were to call a Bank or even an Airline office, you are greeted by an automated voice that will guide you through a process preset. You will have to open the keypad and press a number relevant to your issue/query and have it sorted out. What is essentially happening here is there are Bots /automated technology that is taking over, and running the entire process. Only in some cases will there be a human intervention on these IVR calls.

BPM provides a systematic approach to optimising and managing an organisation’s business processes. There are several Business Process Management Tools out there. They aid in designing, implementing, measuring workflow, and adhering to policies, refining systems and more.

Hyper Automation & Bots

Hyper automation, that term makes one wonder what is so hyper about automation. But then, Gartner defines it as something that “deals with the application of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), to increasingly automate processes and augment humans. Hyper-automation extends across a range of tools that can be automated, but also refers to the sophistication of the automation (i.e., discover, analyse, design, automate, measure, monitor, reassess.)”

Bottom-line is, if you want the organisations to think strategically and come up with solutions on how they can leverage the automation tools running their businesses.

With Robotic Process Automation (RPA) gaining momentum in recent times, the Bots seem to be replacing human activity, and this will only increase with time. With enterprises ramping up on projects, the role played by Bots will grow, and multiply. This raises a question- are Bots the second arising of BPM? Bots can be used across all aspects of a business, irrespective of their size and importance levels.

Coming back to Hyper-automation, it is not just about implementing automation tools to manage scheduled tasks. Hyper Automation requires human beings as well, because at the end of the day they are the decision makers, who use technology to interpret data and finally make sense of what it throws up.

For example, a brand that is using Social media platforms for marketing, the reports and insights generated, the data obtained from their various channels are automated, but to decipher, understand and create strategies humans are needed. Humans are the ones who decide the way forward, the incentives and which direction to go in.

In reality

Now that we know what BOTS and Hyper Automation is all about, it is quite clear that both need to work together for a business to prosper. The list of tasks scheduled can be completed using automation, while the workflow and decisions are made through the people in the system.

Businesses have also begun adopting other strategies such as Low Code Multi-experience Application Development or Rapid Application Development, integration platform as a service (iPaaS). Each of these comes with their own set of benefits and drawbacks. But, with a certain level of automation in play, it is evident that Business Process Management is seeing a new ray of light.
