Legacy Can’t Bind You Anymore, Thanks to Low Code

Let’s start at the beginning. When you say ‘Legacy system’, you could be referring to a computer programming language, a software application, or even a technology that has become obsolete and is currently not used by many.

That said, there are quite a few companies that continue to run and maintain legacy systems even today. But as the years go by and new technology takes over, companies do face challenges in running legacy systems. Some of the fallouts include lower performance, higher consumption of resources, and decreased productivity.

Understanding legacy systems

Applications linked to legacy systems may not always work on new-age devices or even web-based services. This is where Neutrinos, with its RAD platforms and low-code BPM, is revolutionising the way legacy systems are used in this day and age. Low-code development platforms not only help to tackle uncertainties associated with digital initiatives by bringing in iterative and rapid development cycles, but also do away with inefficiencies related to traditional development processes. The entire app life cycle gets streamlined and operations become much faster. Based on past experience of working with Neutrinos’ products and services, one can infer that low-code platforms help legacy systems speed up processes, boost performance, and enhance the customer experience.

If your company is running legacy systems in 2020, you would notice that it’s not really offering an advantage to your business. The one thing that stands out would be the high hiring cost. Since there are very few programmers available in this space, this can be a serious drawback.

However, if you were to adopt the low-code platform, you would have adequate resources to work on the application requirements, enabling you to deliver the finished product within the scheduled time.

One other point: when you wish to migrate legacy systems, you would want to start by migrating simple (non-business critical) applications as it is quite a tedious process, and involves a high percentage of error. When migrating from a legacy system to the low-code platform, it is the best way to ensure you are working towards a strong future.

A myth associated with low-code BPM is that it works only on the web and not mobile. The main advantage of the low-code platform is that it can be coded, developed, and made to work across platforms — mobile, web, or cloud. This means medium and large enterprises need not maintain multiple processes or infrastructure.

Low-code platforms work on not just small apps, but also on large, complex ones. Instead of struggling with coding and complex processes that go into designing and developing an application, low code gives your business an opportunity to make the transition smoothly. The result? Better customer satisfaction and more business prospects.

These examples — and there are plenty more we can share — go to show that low-code development platforms can be extremely beneficial to a business. It goes beyond developing apps for the web or the mobile interface. Dependence on legacy systems can no longer be an excuse for hiccups in your business; what you should do is embrace low-code BPM and RAD platforms to ensure a better tomorrow.
